KS 3155 - Another Winner!!

So by now all of you know that Kwik Sew has been bought out by McVoguerick. It’s too bad really because I loved Kwik Sew in so many ways. I loved the thick paper, the complete directions, the classic styles, the great kid patterns. I’ve heard already that McVoguerick is changing the sturdy paper into that tissue paper crap because “it’s easier for people to pin on and tissue fit.” Yea, I’m sure that’s horse shit. I’m sure it’s loads cheaper. Anyway, pardon my rant. When I heard about the buy-out I snapped up about 10 of the “old-school” patterns. This is one of them. I love the top. Like most Kwik Sew patterns, this is a classic I’ll make over and over again. They still have this and some others at the new Kwik Sew site. They are $4.00 but it’s a limited selection.

I used some of my recent San Diego Swap Meet fabric for this top. It’s a cotton knit with very little stretch. I added the ribbed hem at the waist and the sleeves. I wanted the length just a teeny bit longer and I thought it was too boring just being snake skin. I love how it turned out. Yes, I know, I shouldn’t wear shorts this short. Blah-ditty-blah-blah. If you don’t like them (how could a woman of her age wear shorts that short!!), let your hate rain down on another blog.

I love the cute little hood in the back. It’s not really a functional hood but it’s certainly cute.

Here’s another diva pose so you can see my fantastic yard. It’s finally spring!!!

I’m actually getting a good deal of sewing done while I paint. Do you know it’s sometimes four (f to the o-u-r!!) hours between coats! Jeez!

I bought that pattern too! I've yet to make it because I'm not really a sewist anymore, I just acquire things to sew. BTW, this quote "let your hate rain down on another blog" just about made my day. Love it!

I've had this pattern for a while, and I like your version so much that I'm inspired to get it out and actually make it up! I had always focused on the LS top or the pants, but I really think the SS top is cute and pretty current style-wise. It is truly sad about the recent developments at Kwik Sew. We can hope for the best, but the switch to tissue paper is a shame. I always trace Kwik Sew - now I've got to trace tissue??

You must get some crazy comments on your blog, and I had to laugh at your *hate rain down* comment. I'm pretty sure that I'm older than you, but if I had great runner's legs like yours I'd be wearing shorty shorts too. And I wouldn't think twice about it.

Cool top and with your trim-ness, you can wear shorts like that if you want, so screw 'em... I, for one, choose not to... but I am not in shape either, but if I were, I would.

You gotta be jokin. If I had legs like yours I'd be wearing nothing BUT shorts. Just ignore any nasty comments and bask in those glares of pure envy, smiling sweetly.

What I don't understand is... if ALL of us love KWIK sew so well, how is that they went belly up and had to be bought out? If they are so well liked, which I believe they are because you don't hear too many bad reviews of their stuff (I happen to LOVE them), then why can't they just keep going the way they were? Ugh.

Do you mind if I ask what has happened to you recently? Have you been sick ? You have aged a lot in the past few months. and look 10 years older .Maybe time to start eating something and not exercising that much?

I love the shorts. People should dress for their body type not thier age. And your body type is the deserves more visibility sort so rock it. Anyone that has a problem is probably just low blood sugar from dieting XD. On an unrelated note,, please install disqus so I can avoid the blindness inducing hideousness that is recaptcha (now with $%*#ing pictures!). Disqus handles spam blocking for you (it uses Akismet, the same algorithm that's built into Wordpress) and enables cross platform commenting while keeping tabs on comments, responses, pings and trackbacks.

You go on and rock those short shorts! Cute top!

Yeah, I'm kinda holding my breath hoping that they don't screw up KS too much.

How does one install this? I'm all for making it easy on folks.

Love the top - and your energy! If you hadn't said anything I would have never thought there was a problem with the shorts. I love that you celebrate summer! I see the nasty trolls still hover about. Keep moving forward, hug and kiss  the kidlets, and celebrate life.

Oops -   just re-read what I wrote. I in no way suggest that there IS a problem with the shorts - I mean I would have just thought it looked normal. You are beautiful and I have never thought you were inappropriate.

Love your top,  and as far as the haters go..
it is pure jealousy.  You look great in those shorts and anybody who is being critical just wishes they could pull off wearing them.

You rock those shorts!  Thank God you look awesome in them which is more than I can say for many I see wearing them!  I love the ribbed band around the bottom - nice touch!  Sadness about the Kwik Sew patterns.  Farewell, Kwik Sew, based here in Minneapolis.

Dawn, you look terrific!  People who make rude, ignorant personal remarks, are rude ignorant people. Hard not to feel sorry for them, pathetic as they are.

Anyways, back to the top; LOVE it!

I'm so disappointed about Kwik Sew--glad they will still be around and more readily available, but I used KS almost exclusively when my kids were little because the fit is so perfect and so much more like RTW.  I hope the sizing doesn't change.  Why change such a good thing?!

I don't get the whole "women of a certain age shouldn't wear shorts."  I'm 53 and wear them all the time, but I have friends who wouldn't dare.  I wear them out in public all the time too.  :-)  You look FABULOUS!  Wear them!!!!

If I had a pair of legs like yours, I'd be in short shorts every darned day.  Don't apologize for looking good.  We should all be so lucky

Fuck the haters. They're wasting their time. You look great in those shorts anyway. BTW I agree with you about the changes at kwik sew.

Yay disqus! XD THANKYOU! Also, yea I knew KS had been bought by the evil empire but I didn't realise they'd mess it up so quickly XS I too love KS for the quality, fit and instructions. Oh well, I guess the good side is it'll be stocked in more shops now (evil empire has a bigger distribution system..).
