Jalie 2682 - Wool Knit Zip-Up Top

I love, love, love this top. See the leaves by my feet? It’s definitely fall here. The mornings are in the high 30s to low 40s right now. I’m not running much right now because of my car accident (compressed discs or some stupid crap!), but I’m trying to get out every morning and walk. I get up around 5am and it’s cold! This top is Merino wool and cozy as the devil.

This high neckline is my favorite part of the top. It’s super good at keeping that cold breeze off the back of your neck. I wear a hat and a headlamp when I go in the mornings. The headlamp often pulls up the back of my hat and then my neck gets cold breezes on it. That’s not so awesome when it’s chilly.
j_2682_10

I always need a swayback adjustment and never do it. I’m lazy like that.
j_2682_11

Never run angry.
j_2682_12

And these are my Cora running shorts. I reviewed them here.
j_2682_13

I added my normal 1” above the busy without changing the armhole.

I love that the bust is double lined.
j_2682_16

I love the bright neon yellow zipper.
j_2682_17

Isn’t the fabric scrumptious? I need to get off my ass and post some of it on Etsy so you guys can have some too!

Here’s a link to the pattern. I love Jalie patterns!

Jalie 3462 - Cutest Running Tights EVER!

I can’t even tell you how thrilled I am with these Jalie running tights. I love them, I love them, I love them. More importantly, the girls (including THE Cora that the tights are named after . . . ) LOVE them. I’ll stop gushing because I literally could go on forever how about how much I love these. The fit! The pocket! The bright, shiny accent!
j_3462_11j_3462_12

AAAAAGGHGHGHGHHHHHH! Is the back of these not amazing???? I’m trying not to gush . . .
j_3462_13

The flower print is a Fabric Mart swimwear lycra. They have it in stock here. The Black is a Nike Dri-Fit fabric, and the green is a gymnastics fabric. It green is not very breathable but I’ll take sparkly over functional any day.
j_3462_14
j_3462_20

Pair #2. The black is Nike Dri-Fit. The leopard knit is an activewear knit from JoAnn’s and the purple scale knit is a gymnastics pattern from JoAnn’s.
j_3462_16

Everyone needs reptile scales on their running pants.

I love this pattern so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just can’t even . . . .
j_3462_15

Changes: I have beanpole children, this you know. I made the size M (9) for the length and then folded out an inch for the floral pair. That makes them fit perfectly, but I wanted a little extra growing room so I only pinched out a 1/2” on the leopard pair. I figured the easiest place to pinch out the width is on the front looong piece. So I made a fold vertically all the way from the waist to the hem and also made a corresponding fold on the waistband and the waistband facing. Voila, easy!!!

I need to make a pair of shorts for me!

Burda 6990–Raglan Tops

I rarely buy Burda envelope patterns. I’ve been a subscriber to Burda World of Fashion or BurdaStyle since 2008. But, when I saw this Burda pattern, I knew this would be a great top for me. Yes, I have the Jalie raglan top, but I really wanted something like View C and I’m no pattern drafter. I also have the Fehr Trade top from Melissa that is very similar. The Fehr Trade tops don’t seem to fit my upper body very well without a lot of tweaks and adjustments. I don’t know what it is, I think Melissa just drafts for a different body type than mine, which is fine. Burda, Jalie, and KwikSew are my go-to pattern companies when I want something to fit with minimal tweaking. This pattern is no exception.
b_6990_1

For this top, I made View C, the high, cut-on collar. Once I figure out the changes, this will make a perfect running top in merino wool. I also love View D and View E!! I love me some tunic-length cowl-neck!
b_6990_2

I added my standard inch above the bust to make everything lower. The fit is good although it is looser than I thought it would be. Part of the problem might be this fabric. There is plenty of stretch but not much recovery. So, it stretches out and stays stretched out. This is after making breakfast and doing dishes.
b_6990_3

I love, love, love the neck.
b_6990_4

I made my standard Burda size 34. That’s one thing I love about the Burda envelope patterns. They go down to 34! Many of the magazine patterns only go down to 36. Also, these include seam allowances. A bonus. I still trace the tissue off in case I want to change sizes later or something.
b_6990_5

My typical swayback that I’ve never bothered adjusting or fixing.
b_6990_6

I think if I just take a deeper SA from the wrist to the hem, most of the problem will be solved.
b_6990_7
b_6990_8

The collar that I love.
b_6990_9

Think of all the flatlocking options! This is just photo shopped.
b_6990_10

The fashion fabric is long and folds in forming a facing. You sew the SA of the facing and the turtleneck together so everything stays in place. I had no problems with curling or pulling on the facing. It’s really comfortable on. This was Swap Meet fabric. Look how off grain it is!!
b_6990_11

A Burda winner. Imagine it in Merino wool. Also, I have oodles of Merino wool to share with you people. Four different colors and a Polartec fabric too! Stay tuned!

Jalie 3463 - The Anne-Marie Running Top

Here’s ANOTHER great Jalie pattern! I love, love, love this top!!! The dress is cute too, but I haven’t made one of those. For this running top, I made the version in the middle, the non-flared top. (I love the bright yellow/green back on the one of the left!!)

Okay. Wow. Apparently I’m really excited for this photo shoot. I did just run six miles which does tend to amp me up, but wow. My elbow looks like a twig that might snap off. I will make a gazillion of these tops, I can tell already. I love how the shelf bra stays inside the top and how flat the rounded v-neck stays.
j_3463_10

It has great side coverage. I probably should have continued the black all the way down to the hem. See that red dot on my skin under my armpit? It kind of looks like I missed a piece of red thread from the top? Yea, that’s a Chigger bite from over two weeks ago in South Carolina. Those things are horrid.
j_3463_11

Isn’t the back awesome? I love how it’s cut-out in the back, but still very supportive.
j_3463_12

Like I said, excited. Amped. And I wanted to show you how well it let you move.
j_3463_13

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, hahahahahahahha, hahahahaha. Look at my face. I had to include this one. HAhahahahaha.
j_3463_14

See? And it just keeps getting weirder. See the Chigger bite. Ouch! It still itches at night sometimes.
j_3463_15

Spider-man.
j_3463_16

Cough, cough, ahem, okay People, back to serious business. I love this top, I really do. There is a rounded v-neck, lots of options for color blocking, a huge pocket in the back, and a supportive shelf bra (I made it even more supportive for running – I’ll talk about that in a minute).
j_3463_17

I used Powernet in nude for the shelf bra.
j_3463_18

For this top, there are no raw edges against your bust and back. The only raw edges are further down against your torso. It’s finished in such a way that everything is inside. The directions are good, just make sure you slow. down. and. actually. read. them. Really. To make my bra more supportive, I used a trick from Melissa over at Fehr trade. Instead of having one layer of Powernet, I used two layers. When I cut them, I cut one on the grain and the either across the grain. That way, you get twice the support and it’s not super stretchy in one direction and supportive in all directions. I ran six miles in this top this morning and it was just fine. I’m not super big up top though either, so this may or may not work for you.
j_3463_20
j_3463_19

Look at this big ol’ beast of a pocket. It’s got lots of room for tennis balls. Emilie says four (FOUR!!) tennis balls fit in here? I have not tried that, but I know my short-sleeved running top fit in here easily this morning with no banging around. It is too big for my phone. My phone tends to bounce around and annoy me. For larger things, though, it’s perfect!
j_3463_21

I couldn’t handle it anymore. I’m such a dork, I crack myself up!!
j_3463_22

Have you guys made any of the new Jalie patterns yet? I saw that Deepika made a pair of the Eleonore pants in purple!

Jalie 3462 - Cora Running Tights/Shorts

Another Jalie winner. I know I’m super *fangirl* about Jalie, but they make FABULOUS patterns. (And what am I doing with my face here?) These are the new Cora running tights named after my own sweet Cora. She’s a runner girl like her momma. I’ll be making her a pair soon, but in pink. I need some pink athletic knit? Anyone know where I can find that?
j_3462_1

Aren’t these very Lululemon-esque? I made these tights months ago so they are made in cold-weather fabrics. That bright blue is a Polartec fleece with b-a-r-e-l-y enough stretch so this pair of tights is snug on me. But man, are they warm in the winter. I absolutely LOVED them when it was chilly out. It’s way too hot to wear them now. I’m anxious to make a pair of shorts next!
j_3462_2

The black at the calf is Nike Dri-Fit fabric and the grey print is the last of what I have from Funki Fabrics. The bright blue, like I said above, is a Polartec fleece.
j_3462_3

I love that the inner fabric and calf fabric peeks out from the front.
j_3462_4

And this pocket is amazing. I can pack this full of a load of things and it stays there. I ran with my phone, two Goos, and a car key and everything stayed put. No jiggle even when there was just a phone left.
j_3462_5
j_3462_6

See? My phone is in the pocket right now and there is still room!
j_3462_7

That’s my iPhone in the pocket.
j_3462_8

This is probably TMI, but yes, there is a crotch gusset.
j_3462_9

This has the same great-fitting waistband as Jalie 3351, the swim shorts.
j_3462_10

I expect to see some fab running gear from you people!
