Burda 05-2005 #125 Wrapover Dress
I started this dress last week when my mom was here. I stopped working on it while she was here because the sewing room is technically the guest room. This is from 05-2005. It's got a cute wrapover top section. I didn't make very many alterations to it. I shortened it quite a bit. The original version is calf length. I also added bra cups to this because I can't really wear a bra with it. I made two bodices and put the bra cups in between the two layers. I stitched the bra cups to the lining.
This is a rayon-lycra blend. It is probably too thin for this dress. It shows every body wrinkle, wobble, and imperfection. I think it's a bit too thin for this. Live and learn.
Here's the gathering details. Under the cross there is a small hole where you overlap the pieces. Because it is under the cross detailing you never see it.
ahhh, that sucks it didn't come out exactly the way you wanted but I really like the results.
ReplyDeleteI still think it looks awesome. You so impress me with your sewing.
ReplyDeleteLove it, and you have no imperfections showing in the dress at all (suppose you don't have any). You make me long for summer with your projects. I did like your bikini's too.
ReplyDeleteWear this on the plane--all you'll need is a lei when you hit the islands. It sure looks cute on you, and I was looking at the Simplicity Project Runway top at Walmart yesterday that has similar design features. One of these days I just might buy it. The criss-crossing detail is unique.
ReplyDeleteVery cute...and the color looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteVERY cute dress, and super flattering. I love the added bra cups. I'll have to remember that... Sorry about the thin fabric but it looks great on you. Perfect for Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteYou look great in this dress! Would you consider showing us how you did the bra cups? I'd like to learn how to do that.
ReplyDeleteLovely dress Dawn...I think the fabric choice is perfect for you....you have no imperfections!
ReplyDeleteWell, I think it looks great, perfect for your vacation
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks as if it had been designed just for you -- beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Paulette; not seeing any imperfections here. You've got the perfect body for the dress! You did a very nice job on the fit.
I think this dress is very flattering on you! I thought the instant I saw it that "I love that dress!" BTW - I can't believe how many creations you crank out!!! I am still stuck on what to sew next.......
ReplyDeleteVery very pretty!! Blues and greens really look good you.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric may be too thin, but it came out great. I have a knit top pattern from New Look, but using sleeves, that employs a similar look with the crossover. Things like that enhance the bust, esp. with the added liners. Love it!
ReplyDeletePictures definitely can lie, but I can't see the mentioned 'body wrinkles' =). I think it looks great on you, and at least can work as a bathing suit cover-up in Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks fabulous! Very cute style.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I made that dress two summers ago and it's my very favorite sundress I own. My version is longer like in the mag and I don't have a problem with my bra straps staying tucked in.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe if you had any wobbles or imperfections, they might show. You forget, we've all seen you in a bikini now and we won't believe it.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great, and even if you don't get much wear out of it beyond Hawaii, due to the thinness, you can keep it as a vacation souvenir. Love the color on you.
The dress looks great on you! What a great idea putting the bra cups in.
ReplyDeleteVERY pretty! I wish I had the old 05 Burdas. You are soooo fast!
ReplyDeletewonderful dress! I love it. u look so great, absolutely hot! :)
ReplyDeleteI really love this dress. The color is awesome for you and i LOVE the pattern. You look great in your new dress, nothing to hide!!!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute dress. Very Hawaii-appropriate. I wish I had that pattern. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this dress, I thought, Wait a minute! Doesn't Dawn live in Alaska!!!" I forgot about your Hawaii trip. Great dress! I guess you could wear it indoors in Alaska! I admit, I know nothing about Alaska!
ReplyDeleteThat is cute! I'm going to have to go out on a hunt for that issue.
ReplyDeleteLove it and envious of your svelteness.
ReplyDeleteGreat dress - love the cross over. I saw a range of tshirts in a chain store recently with the same detail. You bikini's in the earlier post look great too.
ReplyDeleteLooks great on you! It flatters you well.
ReplyDeleteThat is really, really cute, and flattering on you.
ReplyDeleteI love your dress!
ReplyDeleteI've only been receiving BurdaWOF for a year and said I wouldn't go back and buy old issues, but.... this dress has me rethinking that. Very cute despite your gathering problems (which I think look great!)
ReplyDeleteWhere can I find the dress pattern? It looks great on you!!
