Dorky Hat - I'm gonna make another.
So my husband says this is an "old lady hat." Damn him. This one, unfortunately, is a dud. I used too light of an interfacing and it's really floppy. It may be okay as a beach reading book but that's about it. I can't really walk to well in it unless I just want to see my feet. This one is crooked too. It's really floppy on the left and wavy on the right. This is the free Burda download #150 from the February issue. You have to register in order to download the pattern.
Well, you picked the right fabric for that hat, just the wrong interfacing. Give yourself a break! It will be cute when you're done.

ReplyDeleteI made one of these a few years ago and to add structure I top stitched all around the brim about 1/4" a part in concentric circles to the edge. It made it less floppy.
ReplyDeleteI also got a new one from REI last mothers day and I love it because there is an enclosed wire around the outside edge of the brim so I can shape it how I like.
I think I may try to copy it.

I'd like to meet the old lady who would wear that hat! The fabric is great - I hope you can get more. Craft weight interfacing may be what you need.
ReplyDeleteI have found with most hat patterns that the stiffest of stiff interfacings are best. It's cute as is. But, I can see the problems walking around with it.
