Chanel Jacket 5 - Trim

This is part II of the Chanel jacket trim saga. Here' s the black ribbon that people didn't like. What I finally ended up with is soooo much better than the black. So, thank you very much for the honest feedback.

I also tried a thick purple grosgrain ribbon for trim. I didn't like that either. It was too thick and too bland.

Then, I decided to go to my local fabric boutique, Seams Like Home. They had this fun ribbon with glitter and ruffly edges. It matches the goldish-yellow in my boucle. I had Paulette helping me and we both thought that it was too bland by itself.

Then we started stacking trim on this ribbon and . . . DING, DING, DING. We have a winner. We tried it with gold and red (too christmas-y), gold and green (too dark), gold and pink (Paulette loved, me hated), gold and just-about-every-color. It does look very bright when the trims are apart but I think they look nice when overlapped. And, it will be easy to go around the corners because the blue can be manipulated pretty easily due to the open weave.

Well, what do you think about that trim?? It's pretty bright but I love it.

  1. I love it! LOVE the gold, and the purple catches those colors in the tweed. Good choice!

  4. Now you're on to something! It looks very much chanel. I think that the tweed has so many colors that the trim needed to have more than one color too. This looks great.

  8. Absolutely perfect! Much better than the black and also the purple ribbon you tried. I don't think it is too bright, after all the fabric isn't exactly pastel colours :-) Great match!

  10. I love the gold and blue, but wonder if it will limit what you feel comfortable wearing with it?

  11. Feeling the love for this (vs. the sad little black ribbon)

  12. Perfect! I actually liked the black, but I like this even better! Gives it a special something the black doesn't.

  13. Love the trim! It blends much better than any of solids.

  14. It's pretty bright, but your boucle isn't shy and retiring, so I think they're a perfect match. Considering how important the trim is on one of these jackets, it was worth the search to find just the right stuff.

BTW, I'm fascinated with the moose posts, so keep on - I'm considering chickens in my back yard next year, and people are accusing me of going back to the land. In Philadelphia?

  16. I was definitely in the minority (only one?) that liked the black, but I really, really like this one!

  17. Lovely! I always think of Chanel type jackets as very formal (even when being paired down with casual pieces) and I think this new trim lives up to that formality. :)

  19. Next time, try as Chanel would. Instead of the trim on the ribbon try a gold tone chain. Also, Chanel suits behave in the wind because the lower edges of their jackets have a chain sewn into the hem.
