New Swimsuit–Jalie and Ottobre

Ya’ll know I bought a new house with a hot tub. Well, I made the kids swimsuits and it was time to make one for me. I prefer to go au naturel but when you have company over or when you hot tub with the kidlets, well, I go with a swimsuit. I used Jalie 2446 for the bikini top and the Ottobre 5/2009 #2 underwear pattern for the bottoms.

Here are the bottoms. I used my Necchi machine and it does beautiful zig zags on nylon. I use a stretch needle and Gutterman thread to get the best results.

I love the Jalie bikini top. It’s pretty darn easy and looks pretty RTW when you get done. I lined the top and the front of the bottoms.

I bought the s-hooks from SewSassy.com a while ago.

  1. Great suit! If I start running, can I look like that?

  2. This suit fits you like a second skin, and if you were any more fit, you'd be able to self levitate! What kind of Necchi machine do you have? Does it make good buttonholes? Inquiring minds want to know. Enjoy the hot tub and the warm weather--Judi

  6. beautiful suit, the color is so tropical, is it turquoise? I am seeing more and more of this color as the season progresses. I haven't sewn a bathing suit for a long time, yours is so nice on you, wouldn't work out well for me however!

Where is the lining fabric from?

  9. Looks great...but chlorine has been known to destroy those hooks. I had my top pop right off into the face of an hotel employee when the plastic disintegrated. Now I hunt down thrift store suits just for the metal hooks. I have also replaced the strap adjusters on my favourite bras using thrifted metal.

  16. why don't you go au natural all the time? You do have a body you can show off

  17. This is the first two piece I've ever seen that looks almost as comfortable as swimming without! Beautiful job on the fit, and a nice reminder that suits can be finished with only a zigzag if preferred.

  21. I am a long time reader, finally delurking to say - wow - what nasty comments anon and samantha have written. So rude and really out of place on somebody's personal sewing blog. Dawn, I hope you delete those! (And, you and the suit look great, btw!).

  22. Hmm anon and Samantha sound like a bitter ex with a split personality to me lol. Ignore them Dawn, you look fab. Hope you're enjoying soaking in the tub, it sounds like heaven....now if only you could sew while you're in there it would be perfect.
