First Up Vogue 7283 - Take Four

Here is Take 1, Take 2, and Take 3.

Ok, here is the second muslin. I used two different prints of cotton. Looks kind of funny. This time I took 1.5" out of the front, sewed the princess seams deeper, and lower the neckline. I think that the next time, I will leave the princess seams alone (notice the weird bust wrinkle now?) and take some extra fabric out of the side seams. I shortened the raglan dart but that just made the point shoulder seam pointy-er-er. Next I will cut into my fashion fabric and hope for the best. I'm not sure what I will use.

All the fabrics are just remnants.

The zipper looks so funny because I am using an old metal zipper and the fabric kept getting stuck in it. So I ironed the fabric open. From this view, it look like I could take some more out of the back too; right above my ample posterior.

The fit looks much better with all your alterations - definitely much more flattering on you now! I always have problems with raglan darts looking pointy too - I usually solve this problem by sewing rounded darts, almost as if there was a seam at the top of the shoulder that tapers to nothing just after the shoulder edge (I hope that makes sense).

I am curious to see what fabric you choose. Whenever I'm still fiddling with fit on a pattern, but I'm desperate to sew it up in fashion fabric - when I'm in muslin overload :) - I use a soft wool. Wool has such an amazing ability to be shaped with a iron that many mistakes can be steamed away. Anyhow, I look forward to your finished garment.

I was thinking along the same lines as Shannon. Wool. A wool crepe would be particularly true to the 60s era and the Jackie O sentiment of your vintage pattern.

I think your horizontal fold just above the fullest point of your princess seam will be solved when you take out a bit at the highest point of your side seam. I think it's pulling your fabric sideways there.

This is looking great. I can't wait to see your fashion fabric.

Lookin' good!
