Jalie 2788 Twist Top

Let me tell you about the twist top. When I first started sewing (almost exactly two years ago) the Simplicity 4076 Twist Top was a hot pattern. I mean Hott. It has 134 reviews on PatternReview.com and was a Best Pattern of 2008. This was one of (maybe the first?) pattern I bought to use knits. I never reviewed the pattern because I could never get it to fit. That was before I realized that the Big 4 had a ridiculous amount of ease in their patterns. I tried their twist top pattern but it was gape-y, loose, and unattractive. I gave up on the twist top. I figure my bust was too small for a bust emphasizing pattern like this one. Well, my local boutique just started carrying Jalie patterns and I just had to support a local business; especially one that has been hearing me suggest Jalie for a year. Most of the patterns they had I already had in my pattern stash *blush* but I found two that I didn't have. One of them was this twist top. I bought it because I always liked the twist top pattern and had seen women on PatternReview.com that had small busts and still looked wonderful. I'm glad I decided to give it another go because I love this top. I used 1/4" elastic to stabilize the front. You can tell this elastic is bit too much for this drapey viscose/lycra because it pulls at the neck. I need to either use clear elastic next time or not stretch it so much when I sew it. I stabilized a bit too much.

I love this tie back. I may even make it lower for a sexy evening top. I went up a size in the hips and probably didn't need to. See the excess at the lower back and hips?

I'll post a proper review soon.
Oh, and I got a haircut.

That is so pretty!!! I love the color and the back neckline. I think I am going to have to have that pattern.

The top turned out great! You only need to take it in at the hips if you plan to tuck it in. I really like your haircut, too - classic and modern at the same time.

lol. I was just scrolling down, reading, when it finally dawned (sorry! bad pun) on me that you'd gotten a new hair cut.... This is something I almost never can tell; I have an idea that something is different, but what might it be??? Well, one more click of the 'down' arrow and there it was: "Oh, and I got a haircut."

I really like it AND I like this top on you!

I made this top recently too, Dawn. Check it out on my blog. I love it for the same reason as you--it looks great on small busted women. :) Love the haircut!

I have made a couple of these in print fabrics but seeing your great red version makes me want to make another in a plain colour. Your haircut also looks great!

You've hit a homerun (with the top and the haircut)! Great color, awesome fit, love the style! You turned me on to BWOF, now you're doing it with Jalie! No one will notice the wrinkles on the neckline, don't worry about that! I wish I could be so brave as to cut my hair that way. It's a get up and go style (which I need), but have always had long hair...

Great top! I wouldn't worry about the neckline, with the gathers elsewhere-it looks intentional. And if it weren't for the fact the we are so far apart (I'm in Ohio) I would think we have the same stylist!! Looks great!

That style flatters you. So does the color. You look great in that top. I love Jalie patterns too.

I love it! One of the first patterns I ever made was the ultra-famous BWOF twist top so I never bothered to try the Simplicity one...

And your haircut looks great! I've finally given in to my neighbour's (and James's) demands and I'm going to let her have her merry way with my hair this weekend. eek!

Love the hair...noticed it before I even got to the bottom!

As for the top - it's perfect...I haven't purchased that pattern - YET!!! I'll be in the shop this weekend so will have to grab it if there are any left!!

Thanks for modeling!

Like you, I don't think I will ever sew a Big 4 knit pattern. It seems that I almost have the same measurements as you (upper body only), and I could never get a knit pattern from the Big 4 to fit. Even Vogue. Ugh.

Lovely top. You got me wanting to buy this pattern!

The top is adorable (as usual) but the haircut is AMAZING!! Exactly the cut I was thinking about getting, except, you know, with bangs. Since I have em. :D

I made this top too, it's the first one (of the many tops I tried sewing for myself) that I can actually wear. It fits so great, and thanks for review it, because I see that you used elastic for the neckline, which wasn't mentionned in the pattern instruction (I think, or I missed that). Although for this pattern, my neckline (just folded and stitched) worked great, for other patterns, I've had problems of neckline being to loose and showing the inside, I will definately sew those again using an elastic...thanks again.
