Well, my sewing room is next to the kid's playroom. Kid books wander in here all the time. The closest book happens to be a kid book titled, "The Visual Dictionary of Animals". There aren't really any paragraphs, just lots of pictures with little informational blurbs. Here are a few of them from page 123. Next to these blurbs in the book are the respective animal:

I will be bowing out of tagging five others because a lot of "my friends" have already been tagged. I can say that, right? They are my online friends anyway. I will I had something deeper and more meaningful to contribute but a kid's book is really a good reflect of my life. I'm all about the kids in this part of my life.

May Burda -- Here I come!

I just ordered my copy from SewBaby.com. I made five things out of the March Burda and I'm very excited about the May edition. I really like the dresses and skirts in this issue. Even though I live in Alaska and have three young kids, I am totally drawn to dresses and skirt lately. I have some knit fabric from Gorgeous Fabrics that is totally wanting to be made into a dress. I have been busy working on the mini-wardrobe. I'll post details on my shorts tonight or tomorrow.

I think this will be the first one I make. If you haven't seen this review from Mahalosu, check it out. Her dress is beautiful!


I am hoping (honey, get on the ball!!) that my darling, caring, loving, and receptive husband will get me a subscription soon.

Burda - 03-2008-110 Sleeveless Gathered Top - #2

Here is that Burda #110 top again. Do you love it? I really like it. I never wear white because of my 17 children. I really like it though. It was really hard to get a decent picture of it inside or outside.




This is the most accurate color. It is a creamy white. I'm holding it because there is no zipper yet.

This picture shows the most detail. I used the selvages for the hem. I so totally nailed the pleats and the "knot" this time.

Thank you Kay Y (does anyone else snicker when they see her username? I've been teaching middle school too long) for helping me with the curving hem problem! She suggested that I make a tiny horizonal pleat to make it curvy without losing the scalloped edge.

I'll give you guys more details about the inside (partially lined), the hem, and the zipper treatment tomorrow. Right now, I'm toast. This is item #2 for the mini-SWAP!

Jalie 2319 Hooded Sweatshirt - Made my own!

I decided that I needed my very own cozy hooded sweatshirt. It is still chilly here and I found that I was running around with my husband's teal sweatshirt on. It is waaaaaay too big and I hate the color. This is more my style. I added two inches of length to it and next time I'll add an inch or so to the hip area so it doesn't ride up.

I love garage sales . . .

My mother in law scored this book at a garage sale for $0.50! It had lots of good ideas. It doesn't show you how to any particular outfit but all the pieces and parts. It includes how to make capes, gowns, wings, legs, masks, spats, hats, so fun!! With three little ones I'll get a lot of use out of it. My son was already saying he wanted to be a Pacific White Tip Shark. Not just a shark, but the Pacific White Tip Shark. Are other kids this specific? Also he has been dressing monochromatically. All orange or blue. He's a weirdo.

I really love this pattern. I get good results everytime I use it and I never have to do any alterations. This is one of the tops for the mini-wardrobe contest. I am doing clothing for summer because I don't really have any.

An aside: Last summer I was dealing with post-baby weight, the summer before I was about 80 pounds larger than my normal weight (twins will do that), the two summers before than I was 55 pounds larger than my normal weight (just one!). I knew after my first child I would be having another and knew my body would change after all this. Because of that, I decided to hold off on buying any clothing for several years while I was doing my "breeding" thing. Now that I'm back to normal size and weight, I can make new clothing to my heart's content.

I added white knit binding to the edges to show off the criss-cross feature.

Thanks guys for all the positive comments on my dress! I really, really like it too. It is hanging in my closet and I can't wait for my husband to get home from hunting so we can have a date night! I gots to find me some silver shoes.

Wow! Looks beautiful on you. Do you have some place special to wear it?
Kasizzle -- Not yet. I do have a wedding this summer so I'll probably wear it to that function. But, my DH and I are long overdue for a "no-kids" dinner.
