Patrones Oct 2005 #28 Muslin

Here's muslin take one of the Patrones pattern. I traced this off for a size 38. I have no experience with Patrones so I thought I'd make a muslin (or two or three). It's three main pieces for the body: front, side front, and back. The back has a center back seam. I didn't do any of my usual adjustments because I wanted to see how this would fit straight outta the box.

This is pinned at CF. I added another pin to keep the flap from sticking up. I know I'll need to take in the waist (or wasit, damn spelling) and let out the hip. The bust point seems to be hitting at about the right spot which is surprising. I usually have to do a 1/2" tuck to shorten the shoulder to bust length on BWOF patterns. It's snug across the bust but I think that's more of a back issue.

Here you can see that it is tight across the shoulders. I think this is why it's pulling just the teensiest bit at the bust. I certainly need that swayback tuck. A lot. I also need to let the hips out a little bit too.

Here's that forward thrusting neck thing I was talking about on my other post. That blue side seam should be perpendicular to the floor right? How do I get it there? I know I need to add a bit of hip room to the front and side front. That will let it have more room. I also think that bunching fabric in the back is actually pushing it forward too. The swayback adjustment may also fix some of that.

I have quite a bit of room at the waist. Also the seam line of the shoulders is right on the pointy shoulder bone. That is were it is supposed to be right? I think that is what our instructor told us last time. I am going to bring this Patrones jacket in on Sunday and see if she'll also help with fitting this jacket.

I have to run up to Fairbanks for a few days for a family emergency. If I don't respond to email, that's why. I'll be back Saturday night but I probably won't be on email or the computer until Sunday or Monday. I'm really hoping to finish this mini-wardrobe but all this family stuff just suddenly cropped up. I guess we'll see what happens. Until then, happy sewing!

Spring 2009 Mini-SWAP

PatternReview is having a mini-SWAP for spring. You have to have a total of 4 new garment. These garments must go with one item from your existing clothing for a total of at least 6 (six) distinct & different outfits. I'm thinking a pair of jeans (of course), a dress, and two jackets. I'm not sure about what coordinating item I'll use from my closet but I have a lot of purple.

First up, this March BWOF dress. I don't like the line drawing but the model photo is really cute. I plan to do this dress in a purple silk duppioni. I've never used duppioni before but I think it's a great pattern for duppioni. I've read that duppioni shreds a lot so something tight and fitted isn't the best thing. It's really hard to photograph the color.

Next, this April BWOF jacket. I love the flaps and the cropped length. I plan to do this in a cranberry corduroy.

Another pair of Jalie jeans. Yes, I know, that's three pairs in less than a month. What can I say? I love the fit of these jeans. I am going to goodwill the Levi's I've been wearing for the past year.

Next, a Patrones jacket. This jacket is from October 2005. I'm a Patrones virgin so this should be interesting. I have no idea what size I am in Patrones. When I measure my bust, waist, and hip, I'm in three different sizes. I went with a size 38 for the initial muslin fitting. It seems like The Patrones Woman has a larger bust and a small waist. Well, ahem, my bust isn't that large and my waist isn't that small.

I'm going to use this boucle from Fabric.com. I really like it. The colors are really bright and I'm toying with using the wrong side of the fabric. This is a sale fabric and, if I may shamelessly plug for a moment, that sponsor link to the right will take you to the sale page. This is one of the sale fabrics.

This is the back. What do you guys think about using the more subdues side?

I'm sure if these four pieces are too much to try to conquer in a month. I know I can make a pair of jeans in a couple of days. I'm not sure about two jackets but we'll see how I do on the Patrones jacket. I'm going to do the full muslin gig . . . yikes.

Patrones - Doh!

So, yes I am a winner. However, this Patrones is made especially for tall (or maybe Plus-sized? I don't read Spanish) women in the size 40-48 range. Drat. I'm more of the 34/36 range. Oh well, looking at the patterns is great. I don't think there are any that I love so much as to go through the pain of reducing a certain pattern by two sizes but maybe. The book is from October 2005 so there are lots of coats, jackets, and pants. Perfect for me, just too darn big.

Also, I bid on a April Burda magazine on eBay. In the last few hours, someone outbid me. I like the April one but don't love it. I will be getting the May one for sure. Have you seen some of the super cute patterns in the May magazine?

Oh, and here is a question for you Burda-fans. Why are there 8 issues? Which months do they skip? So far there has been a January, February, March, April, and May. Do they do a "special" issue so skip a few months or how does it work?

Here are a few of the May patterns I think are cute.

I'm a Winner, WOOT!

http://gorgeousthings.blogspot.com/2008/04/we-got-winners.html

Now, I can give you all a low-down on the differences between Burda and Patrones. I've never seen one so I hope it is in English. If not, I'll have to get by with my wits alone.

I'm excited because I never win anything!!!
