Jalie Celeste

I’ve already made the other view of the Jalie pattern. That is the strappy unitard. Remember how I told you that “the other twin would want one”? Well, here’s the other one. I was right about the popularity of these unitards. The girls are big fans and both “needed” one. This is View A and it is very different than the other one. This one includes a zip front and a partially open back.

You can tell this is a little big. They are long and thin. They measure in the L size range for the bust, waist, and hip but in the O range for the length of their torso. I knew this would fit with negative ease and I didn’t want to have to lengthen the torso. I really love how it turned out.

Can you tell she’s a big fan?

See the wrinkles in the back? That’s because of her smaller measurements. When she gets wider, that will all stretch out.

The front bodice and back piece are lined.

One thing I forgot to tell you about in the first leotard is the interesting crotch construction. The back piece is very long and basically makes it’s own gusset. The seam that would normally run on your inner legs is pushed up toward the front so that they are near the front of your thighs and not the middle. That probably doesn’t make sense but look at the pattern pieces and it’ll make more sense.

I used a Spandex House fabric for the bodice and waist. The blue Supplex fabric was bought in Las Vegas a year ago. I also have this in a dark green too. I’m saving it for something special.

What’s next? I don’t know. I think swimsuits. The twins’ swimsuits are old and they don’t fit well. AT. ALL.

KwikSew 3672 - Simple Knit Skirt

I will be making more of these skirts. I will also make this top. With modifications. I read several reviews of the top and how the finishing is, well, lacking. But, this time, I made the simple flared skirt.

This is made from another piece of Spandex House fabric. I can’t find it on their site, but it’s galaxies. It’s pretty cool fabric if you ask me.

Yes, my children took these pictures and “helped” me pose.

This is a great, simple, comfortable, knit skirt. It is a bit on the short side, however. I may add an inch or two the next time I make it.

The waistband is a simple yoga-type band.

One of my twins said this looks like a bat and now that is all I can see.

Before cutting into my fun Spandex House fabric, I tried it with a cheap JoAnn’s denim-look knit.
FullSizeRender (41)

I did a gold color for the hem to mimic the colors of denim jeans.
FullSizeRender (42)

I’m glad the fabric wasn’t expensive beacuse it already has two runs in the knit after one wearing.

Next up? I have another Jalie 3024 that I bet you’ll like!

Ottobre 06-2015 #13 Snazzy Leggings

I’ve made these leggings before and they girls love them. I am still making them in size 128 and adding a few inches of length. These Little People are long and lanky. Regular leggings either fit in the waist and are capri length or fit in the length and show crack with every movement. You moms out there know exactly what I’m talking about.

This time I made this with fabric from Spandex House. The girls fell in love with this ice cream fabric. It’s a thick poly/Lycra fabric that has fabulous stretch and recovery.
FullSizeRender (22)

I substituted the “stretch grosgrain ribbon” with FOE in a fun glitter pink.
FullSizeRender (24)

And this, by the way, is not the way she’ll be wearing it to school. There will be a longer tunic and TOMs, not these heeled sandals and this short top.
FullSizeRender (26)

The other pair is hearts and green stripes. I can’t find the exact fabric on the website. That is the one downside of Spandex House, they don’t have a great web interface. You have to look through pages and pages of fabric. There is no way to sort by color or designs. So, this fabric is on there, but it didn’t show up with the keyword “heart”.

One of the things I really like about this pattern is how high up in the back it goes. There is not any chance of butt peakage when they bend over or do cartwheels.
FullSizeRender (29)

I used the same pink glitter FOE on both pairs.
FullSizeRender (30)

I explained how to do this here, but I really like this ruching down on the legs. You really could do this to any pair of leggings. Pardon my peek-a-boo basting threads.

Ice creeaaammmmm.

I don’t know about you guys, but we have had about five days in a row of 70 degree temperatures and it’s too hot for me!

Jalie 2215 -- In Red

I love this raglan top so much. I made another version without the polo opening and with 3/4 length sleeves. This one is from a cotton (I know, cotton kills!) from our local Seams Like Home. I really like the sporty look of the fabric. I do prefer running in cotton and natural materials because the other ones get so stinky. Even when you wash them every time you run they still stink. I've even tried the bacteria barrier fabric that isn't supposed to get sticky. But, it does.

Here you can see the texture of the knit. It's really soft and comfortable to wear.

I, again, added another four inches to this top. This is supposed to be cropped but I'm not so into that look post-babies.

I love the stripe on the arms. It's swimsuit material from Spandex House. I made my mother a swimsuit out of this material back in January when I was getting ready to go to Hawaii. For this top, I didn't want to try to fold it over on itself because it is so slippery. Instead, I used my coverstitch machine to stitch the swimsuit material (single layer) to the red knit.

This is what it looks like on the wrong side.

Next, I trimmed close to the stitches. It's not perfect when you look close up but you'll never notice from any distance. It won't fray so I'm leaving the edges as they are.

An update on the Vogue jacket: it is not done. I know it was supposed to be done to meet Claire Shaeffer. But, I don't feel too bad because no one in the class finished their jacket. But, I got a call from my instructor last night saying, "Dawn, I've been checking your blog and I don't see any jacket work." [hanging head and looking sheepish] So, she is checking on us (Hi Linda!) and I will get it done before school starts. I needed a break from it . It is hard from me to work slowly on something for a long time. I get frustrated with not making much progress. At the same time, I knew that I shouldn't get too far ahead because I would miss important things and not be able to correct them. So, I'm going to make a big push here in the next week and get that puppy done. I do owe you several posts on where I am with the jacket. They will be coming too.

Burda 07-2008-124 Teeeeeeny Beeeeeeekini

Well, it's very small. I have no bust and with this pattern I'm lucky that I don't. It does hold my bits and pieces completely. Any one else and it would not cover you. Well, it wouldn't cover you much. The bottoms are another version of KS 2689. This fabric is from Spandex House. I cut the triangle pieces carefully so I didn't have bulls eyes.

Nothing exciting from this angle. It's a string bikini so there are a lot of strings on the back.

The original pattern is just the nylon-lycra with no lining or padding. I added a lining and sandwiched these bra cups in between the two layers. I made it look like I sort of have a bust. Sort of.
Only 12 more days!
