Burda 06-2010-108 Saggy Boob Fail

I really liked this top in the magazine. I really liked Karen's version though she does mention how the under-bust gathers might be an issue for those who are "gravitationally challenged." I guess I need to add "bust challenged" to the list of people who might not like this top. I don't think it's all the tops fault, however. I didn't line the points up perfectly and I could have focused more of the gathers on the bust region versus the waist region.

When it's pulled down at the waist, it looks okay.

When I move my fingers I get large boob-esque pockets under my bust. I think those with a bust will pull up some of the extra fabric. On me, it just pools and looks like an extremely long and floppy boob. Not so spicy.

It's okay, I'm not heart-broken. I liked the style but wanted to muslin in first because I wasn't sure of the gathers. I love this Gorgeous Fabrics knit but didn't have too much left so I used it as my muslin fabric. On an interesting note. I usually do a petite adjustment on Burda patterns. I didn't this time and the armhole is perfect. I think during the summer I run more and stand up straighter. I need to remember to do that all winter.

wait a minute...running makes you taller?! I am going to become a freakin marathon runner if that is true...LOL!!!

Yeah that pattern screamed "granny boobs" to me as soon as I saw it and since I have ample girls they are already gravitationally challenged so I decided to pass that pattern up. I really liked your fabric combination though.

I'm laughing with you. As soon as I saw this pattern I crossed it off my list because it screamed saggy boobs. You have confirmed my thoughts.

The first time I saw the sketch for this top on someone's blog I didn't think it would be flattering on anyone. That's just such a weird shape of detailing to impose on a body, male or female.

I thought that was an interesting pattern so I am very interested to see how it came out. Being a little challenged in that department myself I might give it a miss - but I thank you for finding out and letting the rest of us know.

Well drat. I thought the seaming was interesting and fun, but it would have been a disaster with my big girls :D Thanks for doing the hard work!

ps, i'm with Peacock Chic, I may start running if it makes me taller! :P

I love the fabric you used in the bottom inset.

What if you re-cut it to eliminate the gathers below the bust? That might be more flattering. It's worth a try to save that beautiful GF piece...

Good to know. Love your hair!

I wondered about this pattern too. Lots of the Burda stuff is skin tight. I'm thinking that this top would work if it were like a bathing suit top-tight enough to pull the gathers straight across. But then it wouldn't be a comfortable top. Oh well, live and learn!

I sure wish I could sew like you.

I wonder if that pattern is made for ailen space boobs or something? It's such an odd design!

Love your expression in the second photo!

Oh that is not cute at all. At least it's the pattern that's wrong and not you.

I had my doubts about this top...so glad you tried it out so I don't have to. Not for the small of chest, moving on.

Can I say that it comforts me to know you can make things that don't make you look ridiculously cute?

I liked the dress version but I do have more boobage. I'm also thinking, because I really liked the neckline and I seem to thrive on unnecessary work, that I might retry it with the gathers literally up UNDER the boobs rather than slung below them. That would be way more flattering and I could still get the rest of the dress, which I liked.

Love the expression on your face. I'm pretty sure I've done that at my muslins as well.

Love your animated expressions! I saw this pattern and was afraid of a saggy boob outcome --- you've confirmed it! On to more attractive designs!

Looks like you did a great job executing a poorly-designed garment. It's Burda's fault, not yours!

Hi, this is going to be off topic but you have an old post from 08' about the bitch fabric! I have a friend who is looking for some of that and I can not find it. Where did you find it?

You okay? You've been very quiet lately. Hoping all is well, or at least better than it was.

Hi there, Dawn. Have not heard from you for a while. Busy with summer there in Alaska. Been hearing that it is a very rainy summer. Are you and the kiddies doing all right? I sure hope so.

I miss your sewing and your pictures. Be well.

Ditto the last comment, Dawn. Still laughing over the saggy boob top -- but missing hearing from you. HOpe that is because you are busy with kids and fun stuff.

Hope everything is ok with you and your family - no post in over a month makes everyone worry about you! BTW - everything about that pattern is just awful! Granny boobs come soon enough!

I'm echoing the last few comments: I really miss your fun posts, but I hope all is well with you and yours.

Our routine has been upside down and I've not sewn a thing since May, when my DH started renovating our basement (alone, and I'm looking after the boys).

I'm craving to get back to sewing!

Our routine has been upside down since May when DH started renovating the basement alone, while I manage the boys. And then one of his brothers suddenly died last month, and it's thrown him a loop.

I'm craving to get back to sewing, it's been 2 months now!

Hi Dawn,
Please ditch my last duplicate comment (and this one too!)
