BWOF 10-2008-101 Wool Coat Muslin

Here's a muslin coat made up in a thin, drapey sweatshirt fleece. It's a very thin fleece but I think it does a good job as a muslin. I made the size 34 and I'll have to take it in a bit still. I did my standard petite adjustment above the bust.

Here it is with a random belt. I'll need to lower the pockets about two inches. The belt goes right over them. I'll probably shorten it by a couple of inches too. I feel like I'm wearing a bathrobe.

I feel like a Jedi knight with the sleeves (and color scheme) too. I'll be narrowing those a bit so they aren't so bell-shaped. On the original pattern these sleeves are gathered with elastic and kind of bell out.

Actually nice for a muslin, shorten it, fix the sleeves and use it as an overshirt.

Must be NICE to have the week off to stay home and SEW! ;)

I like the way this is turning out so far. The wool should have more body to it, and shoulder pads will help with the tiny droopiness at the shoulder. Looks like there will be plenty of room underneath, including width in the shoulders, for heavy sweaters, suit jackets, etc. Also, it looks like it has enough give at the sides to take a winter outfit underneath without splitting wide open when you sit down.

Very nice neckline! Cheering you on, here.

I know I don't have to mention to an Alaskan to make sure you fit over anything you might wear under the coat. Your sweater doesn't look very heavy, but maybe you don't wear heavy ones.

I like the shape of the collar. I think that will make up nicely in your wool.

It looks good.... except.... I see there's a little too much sleeve going on near your armpit. This says to me, your shoulder "corner" (from neck to shoulder point) is shorter (& probably narrower all round) than BWOF expected. I'd pinch out the sleeve's inner seams (front & back) by an inch or so, to reduce all those underarm wrinkles. Otherwise, it looks like it'll be a terrific coat.

PS. (I dearly HOPE you don't think this is criticism, cause, truly it ain't) - in looking at the back view, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be helpful to pinch out a CB wedge from waist to neck - the raglan seams look to be a bit too wide for your frame, they're creeping well onto your arms. NB, if you decide to make the upper back a tad narrower, you'll have to widen the back neckline out by the same amount to counteract the pinch & accomodate the collar... You decide....think about it....

Jedi Knight! I think your coat will look great in a heavier coating fabric. May the force be with you!

haha! Yes, you're a jedi knight. :D

Have you made the jeans sewalong thread yet?? I'm feeling brave. Not to mention I've now amassed something like 5 jeans patterns (not including BWOF).
