Burda 07-2009 #124B Swimsuit Coverup

I’m so sick of writing, “I’m so glad I’m back to sewing and blogging.” I feel like I’ve been saying shit like this for a year. So, I will be forgoing that little song and dance and just pretend that I’ve been sewing and blogging all along. Tra la la la LA. There will be a little ditty at the end of this post if you’ll like to hear me complain a lot and explain some pretty crazy-ass relationship shit.

After I made my swimsuit, I wanted a little summer cover-up to go over it. I’ve had this cut out and partially sewn up for quite a while. Between this and that (I’ll go into that at the bottom) it’s been about three weeks since I started this. I never used to do this. Uck. Well, it’s done and I really like it. It’s kind of like a backwards wrap top. I love how low the back is. It’s perfect for a cover-up but probably not by itself. I made it out of some of that ITY I bought a while ago from Fabric.com.

Here you can see the back wrap portion.

The complainy part:
Between removing trees in my backyard (about five total and one that was HUGE), putting security cameras up and running wire (there are a lot of freaking doors in this house which means a lot of cameras), removing the dark wood paneling in my house (I’m going to sheetrock it), replacing my 21 windows (they were old and very drafty), having my camera break, not having connectivity in my sewing room, losing most of the photos on my blog (it will be easy to put them back in but it takes time and connectivity – see above), training for a marathon, and dating a man, I’ve had so little time and energy I haven’t been sewing OR blogging. I’m feeling burned out but happy. I’ve managed to go out of state a couple of times, had tons of fun with my kids, and gone camping several times this summer.

Oh, and for those of you worried that I was irritated by Anonymous’s “button tits” and “shriveled prune” comment, rest assured. It made me giggle a bit and that was it.

"(also my ex-husband’s girlfriend’s ex-husband* – yea, figure THAT one out"

Easy - just like Shania Twain. lol

Sorry about the sucky situation. Some men are just idiots and jerks. I'm divorcing one of them too.

Well, I for one, are glad you are back! I been intermittent about blogging as well. Hopefully everything will start settling down! Glad you are busy and enjoying your summer!

Your cover up is gorgeous.

I'm sorry about your sucky situation but the main thing is that you're happy now.

Umm yes that all sounds messy and complicated, it can only get better from here right?

No doubt you would look incredible wearing anything, but this swimsuit cover is fabulous. Taking 3 weeks to get around to finishing something sounds pretty normal to me!

Love the swimsuit cover-up. Might have to copy this...
if you don't mind.

And, boy, personal situation does not sound like too much fun, all in all. Hope things cool down and you manage to just have fun (hard with kids involved, I guess).

Complicated situation but it seems like you're taking it in stride. Lovely cover-up, I wish I had such a trim little waist. :)

Dawn your sewing always inspires and hopefully provides you with some stress busting and inner peace. Hope you are moving on in your life in a positive way.

It seems to me that you are handling your situation very well, and in fact it is much better than your previous situation, when you were apparently married to someone who was faithless and who has such a bad character that he was more attracted to a spiteful woman with bad character than to you. Congratulations on your new life. And I don't think they make it as "big brother". Not scary or powerful enough - more "jealous, pesky, foul-mouthed, tantrum-prone little cousin" kind of thing, I would say. The comments should be left. Now we have the background it gives us ALL a good laugh.

And your sewing is still great. Things are only changing for the better.

Gosh sorry to hear about your "sucky" situation. Your life will eventually get better!!!
Love the coverup!

I'm always on the look out for your posts; I find you very inspiring and a real trouper. I don't know if my ex did anything and really I don't care as I can look at myself in the mirror and more importantly look my child in the eye and know I have nothing to hide (of course he's too young but even at 7 they ask and say the most insightful things.)
I love the cover up and as someone else said you'd look good in anything!

I'm so glad you're back! I love reading your blog and started to think this time you were gone for good! I hope things start looking up for you now. Your sewing is always so inspirational and I would love to hear more about your running too.

Your swim suit and cover-up are beautiful.
So sorry for the drama in your life - hug the kidlets and relax in the hot tub :) Unfortunately your situation is not too complicated or seemingly rare these days. I have a good friend that just went through the same thing. Her B and L were also jerks and stalkers. And my D's friend S was a wonderful rock of reason - they just got married a week ago! (after a year or so - it wasn't quick.) Not to say that is what will always happen, but there is life and hope after the crap.
Blessings,
Patti

Where I live people pay mega bucks to look like you do! Personal trainers, no carbs and certainly no fun in those lives. I think L is just jealous because you look fabulous. Enjoy this new time in your life and love on those kiddos!

I was so excited to see a post by you today. I love the coverup! It does sound complicated but the best thing to do is just love all the kids and be the grownups which it sounds like you're doing.

Congrats on the training! I just started running and keep thinking about your comments about having to alter for "Runner's Butt." I keep hoping I might have to do that some time...lol! There's no marathons in my future, just some 5Ks.

Good luck, keep sewing and posting when you can!

Beautiful bathing suit wrap! You picked the perfect pattern for that fabric since it doesn't get broken up much by the big pieces. I made the top version of this pattern and have to wear it with a backless bra it's so low. Anyway, great job! I'm glad to see a new post from you!

BConky said...

Your story sounds like Shania Twains. Your beach cover up is cute. Don't you hate people who don't have the enough guts to put thier name on comments.

Tanit-Isis said...

Ok, the coverup is super cute, but the life drama sounds like a PAIN! Good luck, and I hope things settle down soon. It amazes me how childish people can be around divorce---one of those times when you really should behave like a grownup, especially when there's kids involved. /sigh.

sewbluetiful said...

So glad to see you back,, cover up looks great,, in everything else,, you go girl,,:-) and enjoy life....

Clio said...

Oh, I made the top version of this a while back - it's even better as a beach cover up! I may have to whip one up before I go on vacay.

Dawn, you strike me as the kind of capable and confident woman who will rise above the petty bs of others and find happiness. Besides, living well (which clearly you are doing!) really is the best revenge. I'm glad you could laugh at such childish behavior - it shows your true character, just as their comments show theirs.

I love that cover-up. Wonderful fabric choice!

And your life, as long as you're happy NOW, that's what is important. Glad things are on the upswing, and sorry you had to go through all you did.

And hey, it's your blog, you write when you want and are able to. We'll be here waiting patiently. :-)

I've been looking for some easy gifts for my grandnieces, all of whom live at the pool every summer. I think this wrap fits the bill nicely. I always learn something from you! Hope the next year is serendipitous for you, and remember, living well is the best revenge!

okie2thfairy said...

Well, I had to laugh too about the comment. If only I had to worry about being a shriveled prune rather than an overly ripe puffy prune. And, about the button tits, I just had to laugh. Some people.

Glad to see your blog again. How's training going?

Amy Bailes said...

Girl, you are some kind of buff! Love the wrap and esp. love the colors - very bright and cheerful.

I'm not going to publicly speculate as to why you need so many cameras, but will say that B and L deserve each other.

Their mommas must not have taught them the old saying, "What goes around, comes around." Haha!!!

marysews said...

Love the wrap, and it looks great on you! I have chair-butt syndrome, and am trying to get a runner's butt on the treadmill at the fitness center. Wish me luck, 'K?

I like to read your posts, regardless of how often they appear in my google reader, and I don't think anyone's complaining when you take a while to post.

It sounds like things are getting better. It was easy to "guess" that you were going through a divorce, mostly based on the fact that you moved from one house to another.

As an aside, DH's ex went for a broke, toothless painter - there's no figuring some people!

I'm glad you are back too. Love the coverup and your bathing suit. You look fantastic.

Dawn,
So glad your back. Cover up is great! Love your blog and sense of humor. I always laugh when I read your blogs. You have a great personality and you will go far with out the unnecessary baggage you used to have. Lets just say my ex had a whole total life I didn't know about. All I have to say is KARMA is a bitch. THe best revenge is to be happy and succeed in all you do. Leave the past in the past and only look ahead. My best of wished to you.

That fabric is so fantastic and looks perfect as a cover-up!

Glad you're back.

(I can totally relate to your situation.)

Let me guess: L is the anonymous who wrote the nasty comment. You look fabulous. I'm sorry to hear about the general weirdness, but I'm glad to see you're in a better place.

Sue said...

Love the wrap cover-up - obviously sun protection isn't a big problem where you live! lol! Just jealous as when I don a swimsuit cover-up it is more like a tent so I can hide from the sun!

Glad things are turning around for you!

It's almost too nice for just a cover up. Hopefully you'll get a chance to show us more lots of sewing vs lots of other crap. ;)

I am one of those lurkers who love what you do. I totally jive with your style and use the blog for inspiration. I tend to avoid your personal comments since I don't know you, but since you tossed out comments received about your 'look', I have to say I think you are a super-hottie and someone else is a fool or blind. (With that comment, I've been with the same lovely lady since I was 19 and we have four girls, and no secret life so compliments are all I give!)

OOh, I love this! SO cute. Wish it were cool enough to swim here >:( Yea, it's like 105 EVERY FREAKING DAY.

Ha, I wondered if that nasty comment was from a jealous new GF by way of ex. Sounds familiar... ;)

Dawn I was in my sewing room earlier and just thinking I haven't read a post from you in a while and voila I open my laptop and there you are!!!! You look awesome in your bikini and coverup and it's soooo funny how haters are always anonymous. They must be so ugly they don't want to distress us with their faces lol. Glad to see you are doing well.

LOVE the fabric, and you look fantastic in that style.

I always enjoy reading your posts, your sense of humour shines through. Yeah, can't believe what sh*t some people write, it's so petty.

Dawn, you ROCK ON!!!

Hi
I've been an admirer of your work for a while now. Courtesy of pattern review site.
So sorry your children and you are going through this.
Not sure if you are a believer or not, and feel free to delete this off your comments if you'd like. I'm not trying to point fingers, merely give you an idea to mull over.
If you look in Mark 10 you'll find how our creator views adultery.
I've often thought that God's 'suggestions for living', are meant to protect us from our own flawed judgement.
Again, not trying to point fingers, but really hoping, and praying for you that you will have the courage to remain a moral example for your children.
Also, applause for not using your blog to be bitter and write things you'll regret.
Sincerely hoping good will come of all this
