My mailbox

See the writing? This 8.5" by 11" color photo was in my mailbox this morning at work. I know it's hard to see. It says, "Hi Dawn, If you're interested in this it's for free." Well, hot damn, sign me up. I am the proud owner of a Necchi BU Mira. I know nothing about it and I'm getting it tomorrow. I don't know if it has any feet or attachments but he says it works great. I did join the Necchi Yahoo group so I've been looking through it a bit. I think it's a straight stitch machine that can be set up to do zigzag stitches too. There is a Wonderbar and I have no idea what that does. But anything with that name has gotta be good right? I'm hoping I can set it up as a topstitching machine so I don't have to thread, re-thread when do something with a lot of topstitching and seams.
It has a lot of levers, knobs, and things that can be adjusted.

Tomorrow I'll find out what things it has that go with it. I read on the Yahoo group about cams and the Wonderbar but didn't really know what they were talking about. I'll fill you in on the details tomorrow. The Yahoo group information I read said it was made in Italy from 1952-1956.

Yeah! Love your blog, though I haven't commented before. I just got my own vintage Necchi (I'm over on the Yahoo group to learn about it, too) and I am beyond excited about it. Of course, it had to go to the sewing machine doctor, so I am waiting anxiously for its maiden voyage. Love the gray, and the Wonderwheel attachment is a great plus.

You lucked out--I had to get mine on eBay!

Congratulations!!! I haven't ever owned a Necchi, but people who do love them. Sew-Classic (Jenny) over at Stitchers Guild knows a lot about them. I'd ask her if you have any questions.

My very first sewing machine was a Necchi - way back in … well never mind when!!! My second machine was also Necchi. I love the way the 50's era machines look. All that metal! Congratulations on your new acquisition.

I have one! They are great. They are suppused to have a wheel to do loads of fancy stitiches. But, it will do a zig zag and straight just fine. It's great for topstitching too!

Gosh that looks like my Mom's old machine (long gone?) - did it come with a box full of cams for the different stitches? I remember it weighed more than I did, but Mom made gorgeous clothes with that thing.

Oh! I am super jealous! Last Sat I was at an estate sale and found a Necchi in the back for $12 with a note that said "needs work". Brought it home. It had NEVER been oiled! It was locked up tight. A little cleaning, oiling, lubricating....works like a dream!

Hi Dawn, I stumbled onto your blog looking for info on my new find of what appears to be a vintage Neechi Mira BF sewing machine, all metal, ugly green, lots of stainless steel parts, ect. Believe it or not, We just discovered it today as part of a table we have had in our home for ten years! I am trying to determine the age and anything else I can. I will head on over to the yahoo group you mentioned. Also, I have never sewn before, but like machines, I might have to take it for spin. Love your blog, very well done.
