Burda 04-2009 #112 Raglan T-shirt

Well, it's official. I'm not liking this fabric in any form. When I used it for this pleated top a while ago, I thought it was just too thin for that pattern. This is a simple top and it should work okay for this. It's still too thin. I'm not a big fan. It's the bamboo/lycra from Fabric.com. I know they are a sponsor but I have to be truthful to you, readers. I won't be buying more and I'll probably get rid of the two yards of blue I bought.

I do really like the embroidery I put on the front. It's tone-on-tone so it's pretty hard to see.

The top fits well but it's just too thin. That, and wrinkly. I can't believe how wrinkly it is.

Here's a close-up of the embroidery. It's, of course, from Urban Threads. They are having a sale right now if you are interested. This is one of the designs that is on sale. Sale ends at the end of this month.

Overall, the pattern fits nicely but the fabric is blahhhhh. ETA for Gail: The original pattern has no neckband. They just have you fold over and stitch. For reference, this band was 2.5" wide originally. Folded in half and sewed on, it's about an inch when it's all said and done.

Dawn, sorry to be a complete dope, but how do you do your embroidery? I had a sales lady try to get me to buy an embroidery machine at Joann's a while ago and I wasn't interested. But your stuff looks very interesting and cool.

I think I have the same fabric, except I got mine at denverfabrics.com and it's like a blue-violet. I was completely underwhelmed by it when I took it out of the package, and wondered why it was so wrinkled after I washed it. Now I know it is the nature of the beast. No more bamboo knits for this girl!

Sorry, I was logged in with my Blogger account instead of my usual name/URL. Just wanted to add that I love your blog!

Maybe this weight would be great for PJs or other sleepy time things. In the Southeast, anything lightweight and cool is appreciated. I've never been able to find that lovely thin cotton knit that storebought stuff is made out of. Wrinkles wouldn't matter either. Hmmm....

Underwear and camis. Try using that fabric for those... I rarely find fabric light enough for next-to-invisible undies....

I've traced this pattern for my next project. Did you widen the neckband or is this the way it comes out?

I love those sewing-related embroidery designs from Urban Threads.

I agree with the other poster that they'd be great for underwear and you sure have the pattern down for panties!

I actually think it's really cute, but it gets way hot here in the summer, so sometimes thin is good. Your embroidery makes the shirt! At the least it will be nice with flannel jammie bottoms. :)

Are those your Jalie jeans?

I have found, like others commented, that really thin cottons make great nighties for my little girls! I use the jalie t-shirt pattern and add 12" to the length and flare it a little, then lettuce edge it for the sleeves and bottom. I like the shirt btw!

I actually like the shirt, but I love tissue-tees from J crew which are also a wrinkly-nightmare, but so comfy.

Love the embroidery! So cute.
On a hot day, thin tshirts and shorts/skirts are perfect. Although in Chicago we haven't had a hot day yet...as I sit wearing a fleece!

Thanks for the update, it is a good warning for what to expect.
The top does look cute though.
I am impressed with the workout you have given your embroidery machine already.

The embroidery is cute and I was scouring fabric.com yesterday and coming across this bamboo fabric. I was skeptical so I passed it up.

Cute top, sorry about the fabric. The embroidery is just perfect. Great job.

love the embroidery. Sorry you are so unhappy with the fabric, but it's good to know. g

I have some of this same fabric. I used it to make Butterick 5130 and it was perfect. Bamboo has a very nice drape, but I guess that can be a problem if you're making a garment as structured as a t-shirt.

Too bad the material didn't work out for you, but I love the embroidery idea.
